In early 2020, Troy faced an unexpected layoff that initially seemed temporary but became prolonged due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During this challenging period, Troy felt a clear calling, a sign that urged him, “It’s time to get started.”
Rewind 25 years, and Troy had connected with a vendor selling jerky seasoning at a boat and travel show. “I was in my early twenties then and became a distributor for his seasoning,” he recalls. While sales of the seasoning itself were slow, people loved buying jerky Troy made using the unique blend. Over the years, Troy’s supplies dwindled, and he eventually lost contact with the original supplier. Then, during the pandemic, an unexpected reminder surfaced—a 25-year-old invoice from that very seasoning maker landed on his dresser. After several moves, the coincidence felt impossible to ignore. “If I could find the man who made this seasoning, maybe I could bring this business back to life,” Troy thought.
With renewed faith and inspiration, Troy reconnected with his vision, and in September 2021, he officially launched Turkey Run Jerky at the Little Italy Festival in Clinton, Indiana.
Today, Turkey Run Jerky continues to thrive, capturing the essence of that original recipe combined with Troy’s passion for quality jerky, a business journey truly led by purpose and perseverance.
